About The Fota Island Golf Club
 Fota Island Golf Club is located a few minutes drive from Cork City with it's international airport and passenger ferry terminal. It lies in the heart of a 780 acre estate, which is included in The Inventory of Outstanding Landscapes in Ireland. The splendid woodlands are woven into a challenging, par 71, championship golf course, wich is very much in the traditional mode, featuring pot bunkers and undulating putting surfaces.

In 1998/1999 the Fota Island golf course underwent a major renovation program. All 18 tees and greens were rebuilt, the fairways reseeded and an extensive drainage and irrigation system installed to ensure year round golfing enjoyment. The work has elevated Fota Island Golf Club to one of the finest parkland courses in Ireland. Small wonder, then, that Fota has been the venue for a number of prestigious tournaments, which include The Irish Club Professional's Championship, The Irish PGA Championship, no fewer than three Irish Amateur Opens and two Irish Opens.

Fota Island Golf Club joined the august company of Irish Open venues such as Portmarnock, Ballybunion, Mount Juliet, Druid's Glen and Killarney when the course was selected as the venue for the Irish Open. Record crowds attended both Opens at Fota Island. Colin Montgomerie of Scotland set a course record 63 on the opening day of the 2001 Open. He maintained the lead over the entire four days of the Championship and eventually prevailed by 5 shots over the Irish duo of Padraig Harrington and Darren Clarke.
